01 · Background
An Atlanta pathway into Canada’s midfield
Awujo was born and raised in the Atlanta area and started with AFC Lightning at seven. She played for the United States at youth level before representing Canada through her Canadian mother. In 2022 she moved rapidly from Canada’s U-20 side to a senior debut at 18. She developed at the University of Southern California and joined Manchester United directly from the college game in 2024.
02 · How she plays
Holding foundations, box-to-box potential
USC used Awujo mainly as a holding midfielder, where she learned to screen the back line and manage central space. At 1.75 metres she combines reach and strength with the ability to carry the ball forward. She can receive as the deepest midfielder, but her stride also lets her support attacks and press over distance. Manchester United’s increased use of her across 2025-26 reflects that growing range.
03 · Canada role
A bridge between generations
Awujo offers Canada a midfield profile that can protect, travel and develop. Alongside a controller such as Fleming she can cover ground and break forward; as the deeper player she can use her frame to guard the centre. Her senior story is still being written, so the most useful description is role-based rather than a finished verdict.
