01 · Background
A long route through Portugal—and back
Born in Leamington, Ontario, Eustáquio moved to Portugal with his family at seven. He climbed from GD Os Nazarenos through the Portuguese system, reached the top flight with Chaves and then endured a serious knee injury almost immediately after joining Cruz Azul in Mexico. His rebuild at Paços de Ferreira earned a move to Porto, where he won domestic honours and played in the Champions League. After a 2026 loan with Los Angeles FC, Canada Soccer listed him with Swansea City FC for the September–October international window.
02 · How he plays
The organiser in the middle
Eustáquio gives a team structure. He shows for the ball under pressure, keeps passing angles open and moves possession forward without forcing every action. Canada Soccer’s profile of his Porto breakthrough noted that he learned to take more risks and join attacks, an important addition to a game already built on positioning and distribution. He also delivers set pieces and reads second balls early.

Tempo, communication and balance
For Canada he can sit beside a more adventurous midfielder or step higher to press. His value is clearest in transitions: he helps decide whether Canada should accelerate, recycle the ball or close the centre before an opponent can counter. That calm has made him one of the team’s senior on-field leaders.
