Edmonton made, world stage proven
Davies was born in Gomoa Buduburam, Ghana, and arrived in Canada with his family at five. After a brief stop in Windsor, they settled in Edmonton, where he played for Edmonton Internationals, Edmonton Strikers, FC Edmonton’s academy and St. Nicholas. Vancouver Whitecaps brought him into their residency programme at 14; he was already playing professionally at 15. Bayern Munich signed him for January 2019, and the winger who left Canada soon became a Champions League-winning left-back.
02 · How he plays
A recovery run can become an attack
Elite acceleration is the headline, but the useful detail is what Davies does with it. From left-back he can erase space behind the defence, carry the ball through pressure and turn a regain into a counterattack. Bayern’s own profile highlights his pace and tackling, while his early career as a winger still shows in the way he takes on defenders. Canada can start him deeper or release him higher up the left, where he receives closer to goal.
03 · Canada role
The captain who changes the geometry
Davies made his senior debut days after becoming a Canadian citizen in 2017. At Qatar 2022 he scored the men’s national team’s first World Cup goal. Opponents must protect extra space whenever he is isolated on the left, which can open passing lanes for Canada’s midfield and forwards even before he touches the ball.
